Jeep Van Wormer Nabs $5,100 Windfall for Second Career Barney Oldfield Title!
(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and the Iron Motorsports team picked up their first win of the 2015 racing season on Saturday evening, June 20 in the 26th Annual 'Barney Oldfield Race' at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio! Jeep won his heat race in preliminary action and later started the American Late Model Series (ALMS) main event from the outside of the second row. The Pinconning, Michigan native then took command of the feature on the sixth circuit and led the remainder of the 40-lapper en route to scoring the $5,100 payday. Jeep recorded his second career 'Barney Oldfield Race' victory over Rusty Schlenk, Steve Kester, Rich Bell, and Matt Westfall!
A night earlier, Jeep was in the pit area at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan for a $2,000 to win American Ethanol Late Model Tour throwdown. Jeep won his heat race prior to leading the majority of the 40-lap headliner. Unfortunately, an incident while battling for the lead caused him to be relegated to the tail end of the field. At the checkers, Jeep had climbed back up to fifth to finish behind only winner Herb Reich, Brandon Thirlby, Ryan VanderVeen, and Rich Neiser. Full results from both venues can be viewed online at www.i96speedway.com and www.oakshaderaceway.com.
“We really had a fantastic racecar all weekend long and I can’t thank my entire team enough for their support and dedication,†quoted Van Wormer this week. “At Oakshade, we were fast all night long and got the job done to get the win. That has me really pumped up to go back there for some of their other shows this year, particularly the Summer Nationals finale in July. Then at I-96, I feel like I had the car to beat there too and led a bunch of the feature, but that wreck ended our chances of picking up two wins last weekend. Congratulations to Herb (Reich) and Joe (Drake) on their big victory; they work really hard and if we couldn’t get to victory lane, I am glad they were the ones that won!â€
Following the strong weekend of racing action, the #55 team will enjoy the upcoming June 26-27 weekend away from the racetrack. They are scheduled to return to competition in their home state of Michigan on Tuesday, June 30 at I-96 Speedway. The Lake Odessa, Michigan speedplant will greet the cars and stars of the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour and a $5,000 winner’s check will be on the line.
