Rodney Sanders Slides into Shady Oaks Victory Lane with USMTS
Happy, Texas (02/15/16) – Rodney Sanders parked his Swan Energy #20 MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified in victory lane for the first time in 2016 with a $2,000 triumph on Thursday evening at Shady Oaks Speedway.
Making the trip to Shady Oaks Speedway (Goliad, Texas), Rodney Sanders was one of 30 Open Wheel Modifieds registered for competition on Thursday night for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) opener. After rolling off the grid from the 5th position in his heat race, Sanders scored a runner-up finish behind Cade Dillard. Via his performance in preliminary action Rodney earned the 8th starting position for the $2,000-to-win, A-Main. At the drop of the green flag he began working his way forward, and by lap 22 had taken over control of the lead. Holding off a late-race charge from Jason Hughes, Rodney captured his first victory of the 2016 season with Hughes, Cade Dillard, Joe Duvall, and Ben Kates rounding out the top five.
Unfortunately, luck would not be on Rodney’s side on Friday or Saturday night as mechanical issues eliminated the Texas driver from both finales.
“It was great to get the first win out of the way on Thursday night,†Sanders said. “Those guys really made me work hard for it, and it was a fun race. Bad luck bit us the next two nights, but we’ll just keep pushing forward.â€

Rodney will switch gears this week as he returns to the driver’s seat of his Swan Energy #20 MB Customs/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model during the 45th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida). A total of six events will be contested during the February 15-20 stretch, including a pair of $7,000-to-win races and a quartet of $10,000-to-win events.
