FASTRAK July 7th Wythe Raceway PR!!

Kenny Peeples Jr. Dominates Wythe Sparring Session for the Pro Late Model National
FASTRAK Racing Series PR - July 10th 2012

(Rural Retreat,VA) On a sultry summer July there was extreme heat off I-81 South. Especially at the 1/2mile Wythe... Raceway nestled off the highway and in the Allegheny Mountains of the "Commonwealth State". On this night the "Premier Pro Late Model Series in the Country" the FASTRAK Racing Series preferably known in the Southeast-Mideast as the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division invaded the Fred & Susan Brown owned facility for 40+ years for the 2nd visit of the year. When it was said and done the fans got much more than they bargained for as it was just a little appetizer of whats to come on Labor Day Weekend 2012 for the Nations Biggest Pro Late Model Sanctioned event the Pro Late Model Nationals.

It started off with Fred Brown urging Drivers, Teams, Officials and most of all Fans to keep cool and don't get dehydrated. For that reason and due to the 100 degree temperatures it was decided to take it easy and not be rushing things to fast to cause people to have medical issues due to the extreme heat. Nobody complanied one bit about it and took advantage but however at around 8 o'clock PM as the beautiful sunset was taking place the 31 FASTRAK Stars & Cars hit the dirt for the one and only Hot Lap session. Once VP Race Fuels for the Pole Qualifying concluded it was the #3 from Rural Retreat,VA Kenny Peeples Jr. to get the P1 spot attaining a time of 17.643 secs. He was the Inaugural winner of the Pro Late Model Nationals in 2007 which was the "payed practice" session on this night which leads to the 2012 event coming up at Wythe Raceway on August 30 thru September 2. Peeples Jr. has been on a tear at the 1/2mile this year and at one point even had a "Bounty" put on the #3 Hill Top Auto Barry Wright Chassis. After #C4 Mitchell Coble won Heat Race #1 and #11 David Smith in Heat #2 along with all the Driver Intros concluded with Miss FASTRAK Chelsea Smith sending them a good luck with the wave of a Checkered Flag it was "Go Time" for the Judy Short/Short Way Real Estate PRELUDE to the Pro Late Model Nationals for $2,000 to win!!

At the drop of the Green flag it was intense racing between #44w of Brandon Umberger and Pole man in the #3 of Peeples Jr. as they battled back in fourth the first 4 circuits for the top spot until finally on lap #5 when Umberger took the point but it didn't last long as caution #1 fell on lap 8 when #99 Teddy Tate's became a fiery inferno under the hood which immediately stopped the race to get the Rural Retreat,VA native out of the car safely which was successful and with out injury. After the Red flag was rescinded they went right back to it again where they left off with bumping and banging until Umberger jumped out front then until about lap 18 when the #3 Barry Wright jumped out in front and was starting to look like the man to beat but could he?? After a couple of single car cautions and some restart jumps it was coming down to the wire. Two key moments in the race both was on lap 26 first when #57 Lee Cooper got turned around in the apex of 1 & 2 in the middle of the field but then rallied from the back to finish in the Top 5. Also last years Wythe FASTRAK Late Model Track Champion #83 Jensen Ford walloped the wall hard in turn 1 after battling for the 3rd spot with #7 of Clinton Cook another driver who is no stranger to the 1/2mile as well. When the race finally got a good Green Flag run in Peeples Jr. was in No-Man's land where no one could catch him but it wasn't without fail as with 8 laps to completion the yellow fell for "debris" which bunched the field up for a "Shootout Finish" and with hungry young lions like #7 Clinton Cook and 2011 FASTRAK Rookie of the Year #22 Jordan Dill from Landrum,SC and #07 Dale Timms ROY Contender it was a very intense climax to the finish. However when it was all said and done #3 Kenny Peeples Jr. went on to win his first FASTRAK Touring event of 2012 at his "HomeTrack" of Wythe Raceway. The most recent Touring event he won before Saturday was May of 2011 when won the final night of the 2011 FASTRAK Triple Crown at Princeton (WV) Speedway. It was his 7th all time FASTRAK Touring victory.
