    SRRS at Volunteer Speedway CANCELLED

Racing Saturday, Aug. 4 at Volunteer Speedway canceled due to heavy rainfall

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Following an afternoon and evening of hard rain falling Friday at Volunteer Speedway, and with the National Weather Service predicting 60 perce
nt chance of additional thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon, the Southern Regional Racing Series $3,000-to-win “Back 2 School Bash 40″ Super Late Model racing program for Saturday, Aug. 4 has been canceled due to heavy rain washing the track away.

"It's aggravating, just very aggravating," said Volunteer Speedway owner Joe Loven at the track Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. "You spend a lot of time working hard and for what, rain comes and washes what you've done away. We've worked today grading on the track to get ready for Saturday, and now the rain this afternoon and evening has just made a total mess of everything. There's just no way the track could dry out enough to think about grading on Saturday. Plus, the weather forecast is calling for additional thunderstorms on Saturday. What a lot of people don't realize is with a high-banked racetrack and when heavy rain falls, you get severe washing and rutting out where the water just rolls down the banking."
