It's facinating to watch an experienced person do his job extremely well. I'm even facinated watching a good, short order cook handle a hot grill at a Waffle House on a busy day. How do they keep all the orders coming? It seems like they can do two or three things at once. I did say good, short order cook. There are lots of not so good cooks, but that's another story.
Over the two day span of the Winchester 200, I saw a driver do his job extremely well. Dale won it all. On Friday he set fast time in his group. He might have been fastest over all, or even broken the track record, but we'll never know. He was sent out too early, as there was a slow car on the track and he had to go wide in 1 & 2 to avoid the slow car. His second time which usually is the slower of the two was great. Like I said, we will never know. During the feature he showed his mastery of a tacky and slightly rough, fast track by win over a field of top notch super lates.
On Saturday, the surface was smoother, but a lot slicker. Again, McDowell was "top of the field" in the B main. In the feature, he lead every lap. One of the advantages of having experienced running up front, is handling lap cars when you're the leader. Again Dale showed how it is done, although a few cautions came at the right time to reset the field and keep the running order tight to give the leader some "clean air". Yes, he won it all and did it all, tacky track and dry slick. I give him credit for a job well done.
