Chris Brown Registers Top Ten in Doug Murphrey Memorial

Spring, Texas (06/05/12) – Chris Brown took his #21 Delta Flange & Manufacturing/Shryock Racing Components/Skyrocket/Roush Yates Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified into battle over the weekend in the 6th Annual Doug Murphrey Memorial, and came away with a top ten finish to show for his efforts.

Chris took part in the 6th Annual Doug Murphrey Memorial over the weekend at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) as 93 of the nation's top Open Wheel Modified pilots converged on the 1/4 mile oval for the $10,000-to-win event. On Friday night a pair of double heats were held with lineups determined via pill draw. In the first heat Chris raced from the fifth starting spot to a second place finish, and in the second heat he started dead last before charging to the win. Via his heat race performances he earned more points than any other driver in the field, which locked him into the pole starting position for the first qualifier on Saturday evening. He was joined on the front row for the qualifier by Johnny Bone Jr., and Brown would blast to the lead on the final lap to claim the win and the pole starting spot for the 50 lap finale.

Joining Brown on the front row for the feature was his teammate, Kelly Shryock. As the main event went green Shryock shot to the lead with Brown in pursuit. Those two drivers would hold down the top two spots for the first half of the race. However, late in the event Brown would slip backwards a few spots as the handle began to go away on his entry. He would ultimately cross the finish line in sixth behind race winner, Terry Phillips, Kelly Shryock, Jason Hughes, Chris Henigan, and Jason Ingalls. The team will take a two-week break from racing before resuming their schedule on June 22nd-23rd with a pair of $4,000-to-win/$400-to-start events with the Casey's USMTS National Championship tour. On Friday, June 22nd the action will open at Humboldt Speedway before shifting to Valley Speedway (Grain Valley, Missouri) on Saturday, June 23rd. Chris is currently tenth in the latest national standings. For more information on the events, please visit www.USMTS.com.
