As far as the cautions go, maybe, just maybe, Lucas Oil officials could mandate that when drivers are in the hot pit they need to remove dangling and dragging bodywork or other parts of their cars before returning to the track. There were numerous situations on Saturday in which it was inevitable that these parts were going to fall off and cause a caution. Let alone hit another car or driver. Pierce was one example.

The most laughable example was when Josh Rice had his spoiler barely hanging on and flopping on the ground. Under caution, they had him pull up to the official who bent it back up under the rear roof support. As you can imagine, it took about two laps before it fell off and caused another caution.

Or get up in the stands. I kept waiting for a crew man to get hit as one of the cars dragging sheet metal/braces went by. Be pro active and keep someone from getting hurt vs. reactive and making a rule AFTER someone does.
A battery powered cut off wheel in the pits isn’t too much to ask.

As long as drivers find a sugar daddy to pay the bills, they can keep on beating the tar out of stuff for style points. Lucas only pays by the transponder though. No judges, like in a diving competition.

Show me a business that genuinely benefits from sponsoring a dirt car team without naming valvoline or Drydene. Mike Reece never made more headstones because of Jimmy Owens and Bob Miller never sold more Coal because of Scott Bloomquist, Carl Grover didn’t build more forklift chassis or work on rail cars because of Eddie Jr. The point is this, DLM racing isn’t fed by rich guys who like dirt racing and need a tax write off. No DLM team has the capacity or knowledge to make a solid sales pitch to a company to show them the benefit of sponsoring their team, nor do any of the sponsors have a product that reaches millions of people. Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas will not do one hotel plumbing job in Florence Ky anytime soon.
Bilstein shocks, longhorn, and Cornett may gain some new customers this week. But a casual sponsor that doesn’t offer a product to anyone racing out there, isn’t going to get a return.

PS — there were just as many cautions brought out for other reasons. It was just an odd thing. This was my 30th North/South. I’ve seen them go 100 laps with no cautions. And others with only one or two. This one, caution wise, was an anomaly.

It also makes me wonder if Owens would have won if some of those d*mn cars would have quit bouncing off the walls and causing so many cautions. Congratulations to the podium finish drivers on a well driven race!!! I can't say much for some of the others.

If those cautions didn’t happen, lapped traffic would have been a factor. Owens has been tough to beat this year when he’s leading and running in clean air. He has a very different car otherwise. As for the guys who run the top, a huge THANK YOU. Those drivers are what keeps the sport exciting. Those drivers are what gets the fans on their feet. Those drivers are the future of our sport. If they all ran the same boring low-middle line for 100 laps, the sport would be dead. Might as well pave the track.
