You're right and for some reason I can't comprehend they let the nose guy dictate the rules essentially.

It's faster on the ground, so they will always get it on the ground. The travel used on the track is a very small window. You just make more initial travel really soft to get it in race position. Then you hold it down with shocks. If you want to make the nose less aero dependent, it needs to have a much taller frontal area, like they did 12 years ago. No splitter on it either. That would do a lot.Originally posted by ftfiowa View Postif the front nosepiece needs raised more than 4" to get enough air under the car to disrupt the aero than what should the number be? 6", 8"? the cars are too locked down aero wise so it seems to me the cheapest way to change is by raising the nosepiece significantly to make cars less stable.
I still think I'm the only guy that was concerned when he showed up at PRI and saw splitters on the noses.Last edited by MasterSbilt_Racer; 03-19-2025, 07:00 AM.

When a fat guy stands on the front? The height requirement would be no problem to solve. They already run lower than ride nowOriginally posted by ftfiowa View Postraise the front 4"+ and make the skirt run parallel to the ground.

Just go to the 410 ci limit that sprint cars use. Parts become cheaper cause everybody building the same thing. Eliminates all this experimentation and research on the huge monster motors.
While were at it take some aero away and loosen up the cars

Trophy trucks use the same custom blocks these days.Originally posted by EvelB7 View PostThe modern dirt late model engine is actually a purpose built piece, not really a 'small block' or 'big block'. Bore spacing, deck height, cam placement have all been moved around to produce these configurations and produce the power they have. Back in the day we had the 'Rocket' blocks that where capable of making over 460 cubic inch 'small blocks'. Quite a few of them at Cherokee back when it was big.

If I'm not mistaken Pennington set the track record with that motor and it stood until the track was reconfigured and shortened as it is today. Also at that time I believe Ed Basey was running a 570 or so they said.Originally posted by Henry Every View Post
I remember that engine, built by "EDGE" I think and was run in a "Lazer" chassis. I guess you can go too far, but I find a big block interesting. Jack Pennington use to run a BB Chevy at Cherokee back in the early 90's in his Walter Newman cars, ran good too, but I'm sure it wasn't 1100 HP, that's a lot to hook up. I can only imagine the torque numbers!!!

You have to make it steer well while holding it to the floor, be very aggressive, and not get wrecked.Originally posted by riddle28 View Post

It doesn't help that they get bolted in a car where you could hold it wide open if you had 700 hp. The racing is terrible

Adding a wing to a non wing sprint doesn't make it more "super". It makes it a different class where different things are more important for success and the racing is different.
I'm the one laughing. But I shouldn't be. People usually try and form an argument while or before reading someone's words.
