Has anyone seen the film SENNA?
If you're a racing fan, you don't want to miss this riveting film which
charts the career of Formula One racing legend Ayrton Senna, from his explosion onto the F1 scene in 1984 (when he came from 13th place to finish first at the Monaco Grand Prix) to the Brazilian star's tragic death a decade later at age 34, in an accident at Imola in San Marino.
Alongside many of his most famous races, the film covers Senna's three
World Championship wins, his bitter rivalry with fellow driver Alain
Prost, his frequent clashes with the deeply political racing authorities (he would often win on the track but lose on a technicality, just as he did in 1984), his global superstar status and the effect of his success on his beloved native country.
The film is structured like a thrilling sports biopic. It is inspirational,
awe-inspiring, laugh-out-loud funny, and ultimately deeply moving.
SENNA will be shown at the Varsity Theatre, across from the Drake University campus in Des Moines, this Friday, Sept. 25, at 4,7:30 and 9:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday showings are 1:30,4,7:30 and 9:30 p.m., plus 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. shows Monday through Thursday.
