MORGAN COUNTY — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has identified a body recovered earlier this week as John Davis III of Malta — one of the men law enforcement officers have been searching for since a June 12 shooting in Stockport.
The sheriff’s office has also filed a murder charge against Timmy Stevens in connection to Davis’ death.
According to a press release, investigators identified Davis through fingerprints and tattoos. The preliminary autopsy report reveals that Davis died of a single gunshot to the head, and a bullet was recovered.
Investigators are continuing to process the site where Davis’ body was located — the edge of a creek about 75 feet from Bald Eagle Road, a half-mile from the junction of County Road 2 in Windsor Township.
Sheriff’s deputies and investigators with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations have been searching for Davis, 36, for a week since they received a report he had been shot in the head three times by Stevens, 39, after the pair argued on County Road 2, south of Malta.
