Is there any advantage to bronze bushing birdcages vs bearing?
Bsb has a tech article talking about that on their website
Wasn't sure if side loading the bearings in the right side cage was a problem the were trying to solve with a bronze bushing
bloomer use to be big on the bronze bushings...
The problem with bronze bushings is that they require a ton of maintenance. You need to keep them greased and clean at all times. They do wear out tubes faster than bearings also. The good part is, if they are a real wide birdcage, they won't bind as bad as a bearing cage with axle tube flex. Also, make sure if you get bearing birdcages, be sure the bearings being used are of the best quality. We used the Wehrs machine cages for years without issue.
