Drums are self energizing ,that makes them harder to be smooth and consistant with.They are harder to keep in good working order than disk.

Drums also lack in cooling, so they will work...but after a few laps start to fall off since the brakes are heating up and cant cool sufficiently.

Also,you want the wheel weight (unsprung weight) to be as lite as you can get it.When that tire bounces up in the air from the uneven dirt track,you want it to come back down as soon as possible.The lighter it is ,the faster you'll regain traction.

Wheel weight is Un-sprung weight. Many factory disc brake setups are heavier than a factory drum setup. If you can run aftermarket discs it is an easy choice, go with disc.

CSwitch had some comment on cam sensors also....I don't know where he's getting this stuff from. I haven't seen front drums on a car for 30 years, on most car in 40 years...Maybe he was looking at a new fork lift..LOL
