But no one did anything about that why they made creates and limited. Everyone knew it was the slow death of late model racing. It was a band-aid to fix the bullet hole. Not fixing the real problems.

The problem is you don't have the little guys anymore that want to work hard to get faster, everyone wants to buy speed and win. It does cost a lot but with car counts the way they are its actually better for the little guy and I can say this because I'm doing it. I have been having a good year 4 top 10s and 1 top 5 with an 08 rayburn with a 357 steel block all done by myself.i know I'm not going to win but I love racing hard and doing the best I can.i will hopefully back to fals next week.

I'm curious if anyone thinks the fans would pay 20.00 at a weekly show if there was 25 to 30 supers every week?

Most won't, you have pay more than 20 to field 25-30 supers unless you can fill every seat.

Below is an add to sell a used engine of a local weekly dirt track racer. If this is what a used engine is going for, then what does a new one cost? Add the cost of everything else on the car and you're probably talking about 60 to 80k for a local racer plus the weekly cost of running. I don't see how local racers could afford to do this.

430 13/11 degree pro prower standard bore. Have had motor for 2 years bought brand new from pro power. It only has right under 200 laps on it since fresh. Won Florence Speedway a few weeks ago. And won Florence Speedway championship. $20,000 FIRM. Also can still hear motor run in car. We will run it until sold!

What if here in Illinois we had Babb, Feger, Sheppard, Pierce, Erb Jr, Hackensat Jr, Shirley, Unzicker, Spatola, Weaver every week at your local track do you think they could fill the place at 20.00 a ticket

Maybe I think that would work out better if for a regular it was 16.00 for G.A.

What would the payout be 1- 20? and what you need to pay to get that caliber of drivers to show up week in and week out.

    You did....6 years ago.

Fortunately or unfortunately....depending on your view, four of those guys went to race a national tour full-time.

If...I was a track promotor in IL, I'd try to get 4 tracks on the same page...and alternate every other week.

$3k to win, $300 to start, 35 laps.
    $15 adult admission

    Week 1: Sycamore and Fals
Week 2: Jacksonville and Farner City
    Repeat...

If you want to get really ambitious...add Tri-City and I-55 to the mix and go on a 3 week rotation.

Not saying it has to be those 6 tracks. I know you also have Macon, LaSalle, etc.

You'll draw 24+ cars every show. Put a point fund together and add a couple contingency sponsors and you're in business.

Add a couple 5k to win, $500 to start, 50 lap specials to the mix, and charge $18-$20 for adult admission.

It's pretty simple. Would you rather pay $12 every week to see 7 late models???..or pay $15-$20 every other week to see a full field of quality cars?

Want to curb cost for drivers, go to a hard tire rule.

Myself I would like to see Lincoln, Macon and Spoon River that way you have a variety of tracks. 1/4, 1/5 and 3/8. Lincoln on Friday night, Macon on Saturday night and Spoon River on Sunday night.

A New "wide" bore engine is somewhere between $45 - $50K from a major builder and they cost more to rebuild and require more frequent rebuilds than the engine you listed. I propose, instead of just saying this engine or that engine is illegal or making everyone run the same engine, which is dull. I recommend adopting/enforcing rules that unhook the cars(less down force and less mechanical grip). If you make it where they can't hook up 900HP then the cost will take care of itself. I'm in favor of a free market approach as opposed to the "socialistic" crate approach. This way engine builders stay in business, car builders stay in business, but the power needed is much less and a smart racer can afford to participate. Now its true the cars won't be as fast as they are right now, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. If terminal speed was all the fans wanted then tracks would be getting bigger and bigger, but they aren't. Most of the best races you'll see are on either smaller tracks and/or slicker tracks, so top speed isn't the draw in my view. JMO

Probably the best solution to the problem right here but will they ever do it before it's to late?

Their is no doubt dirt racing is hurting Especially Late models because of several reasons. Of course because of high costs another reason this generation coming up is not interested in racing especially dirt racing.they are interested in their video games so later the count of drivers and fans going way down.the crowds are down now at most tracks.I think they need to eventually get the costs way down.I understand that would take quite a while but something needs to be done somehow.

It depends when and how you run. Pick your tracks right, that 434 18 degree engine some guy is giving away can win you races on small and slick tracks.

Crap I used to go to at least three races a week, I have been to 2 this year. Why you say? The racing is pretty lame anymore as is the car counts so they are not holding my attention.
