I've gotten by on the plastic fan... but all else has to be perfect. Tight shroud, keep all the air possible channeled into the radiator from the front, block as much air as possible from going under the radiator, timing must be correct, overflow can to eliminate air in the system, good radiator, proper jetting, etc. It can be done without problems... just doesn't have much room for error if something goes wrong.
You gotta decide... is the risk (boom!) worth the reward (5-8 hp)
No pressure & good luck !

Had to laugh on this one, I ran a plastic fan all last season with a single pass radiator and hardly ever went over 175 degrees. 1 to 1pullys with fan 2 inches from the radiator, gutted thermostat as a restrictor and No shroud.... we were on e85@ 32 degrees of timing

The e85 is why you can do that. But I will say we run a plastic fan at the beginning of the year while its still cool outside. Some nights we will switch from one to the other to keep it cool when the weather changes
Ps we run gas not e85
