    Rearend question

is there an advantage having a quickchange rearend with a higher ratio like 411 than a 486, and have you heard of anyone running anything higher, like in the 3 range? thanks

I don't know if anyone makes anything other than the two ratios you mentioned. It seems like 4.86 was always the most popular, but then you see a ton of cars for sale with 4.11 rearends.

I believe the 4.11 turns less (the actual ring and pinion), which is then less rotating weight so to speak. And I believe the gears tend to be smaller, which is also less weight. But if the 4.86 is more popular and you ever find yourself needing to borrow a gear, chances are more racers might have what you are looking for. In addition, depending on the size of tracks you run, the 4.11 makes it harder to find higher gear sets (like those over 7.00 final ratio), which is something to consider as well.

FWIW, this was posted in the classified section. You might get more responses in the tech section.
