Sylvania, Georgia (January 28, 2025) – It is an annual February pilgrimage for race drivers and fans alike from all around the United States. Georgia-Florida Speedweeks will see some of the nation’s best dirt racers competing for big money at Screven Motor Speedway’s 15th Annual Yurezz Home Center / Yess First Insurance Winter Freeze presented by Supply Chain Management and Vidalia Motorsports. This mega event will be contested over 3 days beginning on February 6th and concluding February 8th. The event will see 2 big nights of racing action plus a night of open practice to open the weekend at the red clay 1/3rd of mile track.
The speedway, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, is located between Sylvania and Newington on Savannah Highway (GA-21). The event aptly named Winter Freeze again has the track hosting a solid group of touring series with the all-new Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series, the 602 Bandit Series and the Sport Compact Dirt Racing Association (SCDRA). Screven will also have racing in CRUSA 604 Late Models, CRUSA type Street Stock, Factory Stock (Road Warriors) and Cop Stock (Crown Vics) filling out the schedule each night.
The Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series, which begins its inaugural season in 2025, opens up on Friday, February 7th with a $5000 to win event and concludes with a $15,000 to win event on Saturday, February 8th. Co-headlining the weekend is the SCDRA Series Compacts who will chase a record $21,000 payday.
Drivers from more than 25 different states and at least one Canadian Provence are expected to enter the event. Screven Motor Speedway owner James “Redd” Griffin is excited about the 15th edition of his February classic. “This is our biggest race of the year by far. There is a lot of money up for grabs for all of the racers. And along with the money is a lot prestige as well.” For the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series drivers, the Winter Freeze serves as their season opening events for a schedule of close to 30 events over their season. “These guys also race in a yearlong championship which pays good money. So, getting off to a good start here is important to all of them.” Griffin added.
The SCDRA traveling series actually originated at and calls Screven it’s home track. More than 120 drivers are expected to try their luck at what is recognized as “the richest Sport Compact event in the World”. Pooler, Georgia’s Andrew Smith has won the event a record 4 times (all in a row from 2014-2017) but there hasn’t been a repeat winner since. In 2024 Newman Presnell of Pickens, South Carolina became the 11th different winner in the 15-year history of the event. Presnell’s win was worth $20,000. “We start 30 cars in that feature event and they race for 600 laps. We have some of the best drivers in the world here chasing that money. The race is always exciting and we are proud to host it.” concluded Griffin.
