Wyatt Coffey Claims First Career Red Clay 602 Late Model Series Victory at Screven

(SYLVANIA, GEORGIA) The Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series made their inaugural visit to Screven Motor Speedway on Friday night for the ‘Winter Freeze XVI’ opener. The 2026 season lid lifter for the 602 tour was captured by Waynesboro, Virginia young gun Wyatt Coffey. Wyatt, who started in the fourth position, wrestled the top spot away from leader Ross Bailes on the fifteenth circuit and went on to pace the stout field for the final six laps.

At the unfurling of the checkered flag, Wyatt was 1.623 seconds ahead of his nearest competition to bag the $2,000 first place prize money for his first career win on the tour. Ches Chester steered past four competitors to record an impressive runner-up performance at the Sylvania, Georgia oval. Polesitter Ross Bailes led laps 4-14 before rounding out the podium in third. World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Cody Overton climbed eight spots during the 20-lapper to finish in the fourth position, while fast timer Kenny Collins slipped to a fifth place effort after leading the opening trio of laps.

Wyatt Coffey drove a #2 machine to the victory and carried sponsorship from Bradley's Trucking, United Tire & Auto, Arbor Life Tree Care, Todd Rental, MPM Marketing, VP Racing Fuels, Paynes Enterprise, Inc., Charlie Obaugh RV & Outdoors, Charlie Obaugh Chevrolet GMC, Bennett’s Hometown Garage, Checkered Flag Graffix, R&M Automotive, Mt. Ches Chester knocked down the quickest time in MRP Fantasy Racing hot laps with a time of 16.799 seconds. Kenny Collins then earned Fast Time honors during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying with a lap of 16.344 seconds. Chris Woods later topped the lone consolation race that was used to fill out the 22-car starting field.

Action heats back up at Screven Motor Speedway on Saturday, February 7 in the ‘Winter Freeze’ grand finale, which boasts a hefty $2,500 top prize for the 602 Late Model stars.
