Brayden Chavous Secures First Career Red Clay 602 Late Model Series Triumph at Modoc
(MODOC, SOUTH CAROLINA) The ‘Modoc 100’ weekend wrapped up on Saturday evening, October 24 at Modoc Speedway in front of a huge crowd at the revitalized Modoc, South Carolina venue. At the end of the night, it was youngster Brayden Chavous that was celebrating his first career Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series win in victory lane. Brayden, who started fourth on the feature grid, assumed the point on lap 21 when leaders Cass Fowler and Luke Cooper wrecked in turn three and led the rest of the way in the 30-lap feature to capture the $2,500 first place prize money!
Eighth-starting Shaun Thomas, who briefly took the lead from Chavous before an untimely caution flag negated the pass, finished 1.232 seconds back in the runner-up spot. Tenth-starting Luke Clements improved seven positions to round out the podium in third. Monk Gulledge and Billy Rushton finished fourth and fifth respectively in the final rundown of the entertaining contest. Fowler and Cooper, who are amongst three drivers battling for a series championship, were both disqualified following the race due to extracurricular activities between the teams in the infield and in the pit area.
Sixteen competitors signed into the Modoc Speedway pit area on Saturday to enter the ‘Modoc 100’ finale, which served as round 20 of the Red Clay 602 Late Model Series season. Cass Fowler was fast right off the trailer, as he topped both RaceDay Safety hot laps and Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying. The entire feature field was set solely through the time trial session. The 30-lapper was slowed by five Tuxedo Glass and Mirror cautions including the pivotal Fowler/Cooper incident, which occurred on a lap 21 restart.
The 2026 season will conclude for the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series in a big way on Saturday, October 31 in the ‘Crate Spooktacular’ at North Georgia Speedway. The single-day showdown at the Chatsworth, Georgia venue on Halloween Night will boast a $4,000 winner’s check. Each starter in the 40-lap feature is guaranteed at least $250 to take the green flag. Taking only each driver’s best sixteen point finishes - per series rules, Luke Cooper currently leads the series point standings over Cass Fowler, Spencer Singleton, Dawson Lowe, and Shaun Thomas.
