New Wrinkles For Multi-Day WoO Shows At SCREVEN & Volusia

CONCORD, NC – Sept. 29, 2012 –

The 2013 World of Outlaws Late Model Series will kick off with the busiest month of February in the history of the national tour.The three tracks that hosted WoO LMS events in February ’12 – SCREVEN MOTOR SPEEDWAY in SYLVANIA GA Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. – will be featured again come 2013, but changes in each facility’s program will produce more lucrative action for teams and more excitement for fans. A total of EIGHT WoO LMS A-Mains will be contested over a three-week stretch in February ’13, highlighted by the inaugural $20,000-to-win ‘Super Sunday Showdown’ that will close the second annual Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals on Feb. 15-17 at Bubba Raceway Park.

In addition, SCREVEN`S THIRD ANNUAL ‘WINTER FREEZE ' event has been restructured to include A PAIR OF FULL WoO LMS Racing Programs on Feb. 8-9
and Volusia’s 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment will for the first time boast three consecutive nights of WoO LMS competition from Feb. 21-23.

“The 2013 World of Outlaws Late Model Series is definitely going to start in unprecedented fashion,” said WoO LMS director Tim Christman.
“We think this schedule of events will be very attractive for both the racers and fans.
In a span of three winter weeks teams will have a chance to race for over $400,000 in purses, including $85,000 in first-place prizes alone.
” The Bubba Army Winter Nationals – an event that debuted earlier this season and produced unforgettable racing at the three-eighths-mile, D-shaped BRP oval – will take on a new look in ’13. Moving to a Friday-Sunday spot on the calendar, the meet will grow increasingly larger each night, with a 40-lap, $7,000-to-win show on Fri., Feb. 15, and a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win event on Sat., Feb. 16, leading into the 75-lap, mega-money finale on Sun., Feb. 17. With a track-record $20,000 first-place check on the line in the ‘Super Sunday Showdown,’ BRP co-owner ‘Bubba The Love Sponge’ Clem is anticipating that the already intense action at his unique track will reach an even loftier level. “We wanted to make the Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals even bigger in 2013 for the fans and race teams and I think we’ve done it,” said Clem, a nationally-known syndicated radio show host. “Running a $20,000-to-win show on Sunday night before everybody goes over to Volusia (for the DIRTcar Nationals) seems like a perfect fit. The fans are gonna love seeing all the best drivers come together for the biggest-paying race of Georgia/Florida Speedweeks.” A practice night at BRP is scheduled for Thurs., Feb. 14.

The three-eighths-mile SCREVEN MOTOR SPEEDWAY meanwhile, will present the season-opening WoO LMS event for the second consecutive year.

In 2013, however, promoter Redd Griffin will spin off TWO COMPLETE PROGRAMS ,
running a 40-lap, $8,000-to-win A-Main on Fri., Feb. 8,
and a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win show on Sat., Feb. 9.

Dirt Late Model teams will have an opportunity to practice at Screven on FEB 6 & 7.

The circuit’s ambitious month will close at its traditional February home base, Volusia Speedway Park outside Daytona Beach, Fla. A high-speed, half-mile oval, VSP will offer three consecutive nights of WoO LMS action topped by 50-lap A-Mains paying $10,000 to win on Thurs., Feb. 21, Fri., Feb. 22, and Sat., Feb. 23.
VSP’s UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit has included two scheduled WoO LMS programs in each season since 2005, but World Racing Group officials decided to up the ante in ’13 with an additional full-fender World of Outlaws date. The dirt Late Model portion of the DCN will now begin in ’13 with three nights of DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned action (Feb. 18-20) and close with a WoO LMS tripleheader.

The 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals will also include racing for the WoO Sprint Car Series (Feb. 15-17); All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars (Feb. 13-14); Super DIRTcar Series big-block Modifieds (Feb. 20-23); and UMP Modifieds (Feb. 12-19).

Screven Motorsports Complex owner and promoter James “Redd” Griffin has made quite a name for himself the last few years by bringing mega motorsports events to his facility located near Newington, Georgia. And on November 16 and 17 Griffin will open his gates for one of his biggest events to date. The 12th Annual Georgia State Outlaw Championships is expected to attract more than
200 race cars at all venues for the two day affair. “We have been doing this for quite a while now. We have been making it bigger and bigger every year.” Griffin said. “This year is no exception to that. In addition to our big $8000 to win Renegade 4 Battle Royale, we will also have the Super Late Models for 2 separate and complete shows. Friday will be unsanctioned and pay $3000 to win while Saturday will be with the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series and pay $5000 to win. We should have cars from everywhere here to race with us. We’re going to show them a good time and have some great racing.”

Just as has become the norm, all five venues located at Screven Motorsports Complex will be hosting action during this huge event. The Savannah River Dragway will play host to the 3rd Annual Marky B Memorial Weekend; The Game(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) Speedway (karts) will host its Georgia State Championship race. The Gee Chee Creek Mudd Drag / Jump will also be in action along with the ever-popular concession rental ride kart track. “We have something for everyone going at Screven. We hope everyone will come out and see what we have to offer. We are constantly trying to add to the facility and give fans more for their money.” Griffin added.

While fans will have plenty of on-track excitement both nights, they will also have plenty of other on-site entertainment to fill out their weekend. On Friday night, at the conclusion of racing action, the band Moccasin Creek will be on the new SMC Star Stage performing live. The band will also be filming for their upcoming video, so fans it attendance just might get some camera time. On Saturday night Bobby Brantley and Big Juicy of Lizard Lick Towing will be on hand signing autographs and meeting fans. All of this is included with your low one-price admission ticket.

The Georgia Outlaw State Championships at the Screven Motor Speedway will feature the $21,000 total purse Renegade 4 Battle Royale which includes Savannah River Utilities Qualifying and a 100 lap feature for this grassroots division. Last year the $7000 winner’s purse was collected by South Carolina’s J.J. Williams. Williams will return to defend his title but he will have to face stiff competition expected from 10 states to do so. The Renegade 4s will have round one and two of their time trials on Friday and then a final round on Saturday to set the running order for the 43 car starting field. “The Renegade 4 cars are very close to stock. They have stock bodies and look like some of the same makes and models that fans drive every day. So the fans can definitely relate. They might not know the driver but they can at least root for the guy in the Saturn or Honda that looks like theirs.” Griffin said.

In addition to hot laps for all divisions and Renegade 4 qualifying, Friday night will also see complete shows for Road Warrior, Super Street, Pure Street and the $3000 to win unsanctioned / open-tire Super Late Models. On Saturday the Road Warriors, Super Streets and Pure Streets will race again along with the two headliner divisions. The ULTIMATE Super Late Models will compete for a $5000 winner’s check in their 50-lap feature and then the Renegade 4 drivers will go after the $8000 purse in their 100-lap feature event.

On Friday pit gates open at 3 PM. Pre-race inspection for Renegade 4s begins at 3:30 and will conclude when the drivers meeting begins at 6. Drivers in Renegade 4s must receive a transponder, complete pre-race inspection and register to participate in Friday activities. Round 1 of Renegade 4 qualifying will begin immediately following the drivers meeting. Hot laps for other divisions will follow. Racing is slated to begin at 7:15. Saturday the pit gate will open at 3 PM with Renegade 4 pre-race inspection set for 3:30. The Renegade 4 drivers’ meeting is scheduled for 4:45. Renegade 4 Round 2 time trials will begin at 5:10. ULTIMATE SLM and support division drivers’ meeting is slated for 6 PM with hot laps immediately following. Racing action is set to get underway at 7 PM.

Last year at Screven, Pittsboro, Indiana’s Daryn Pittman opened the UNOH All Star season by holding off UNOH All Star regular David Gravel and young charger Logan Schuchart for the win.

Pittman would go on to pick up the UNOH All Star’s Eastern Region Championship in 2012, and will now pilot one of Kasey Kahne’s machine’s on FEB 7 ... 2013.

On the second night of competition, 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion TONY STEWART would drive to the high side of a frozen track – where no one else dared to go – and passed Jason Sides on the last lap to pick up his first ever UNOH All Star sprint car win.
