Southern All Stars Shamrock 50 will open Cleveland Speedway’s schedule on March 9th

HUNTSVILLE, AL (February 27, 2013)—The 18th edition of the Shamrock 50 at Cleveland Speedway will be the second of three $10,000 to win races on the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series schedule. The 2013 season for SAS opens on March 3rd at Cherokee Speedway for the March Madness event.
The Shamrock 50 will be held on Saturday evening March 9th at the historic facility located twenty minutes north of Chattanooga, TN. The event pays $10,000 to win / $500 to start. The last visit by SAS was in November of 2012 during the Gobbler 50 when Randy Weaver would claim the $5,000 top prize of the night with well over 200 race cars on the grounds for the track’s cool fall evening finale.
The Shamrock first appeared on the Cleveland Speedway schedule on March 12, 1994 when Rex Richey of nearby Ringgold, GA picked up the victory. Multiple winners of this event include Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN with three victories. Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR has two Shamrock wins along with Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA and former SAS champ Newport, TN’s Duayne Hommel holding two victories as well. Bloomquist, McDowell and Hommel sit within the top-six of the all-time winners list with the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series that continue to be the longest running tour in America.
On March 9th the gates will open at 2:00 pm with Practice tentatively scheduled for around 5:30 pm. In addition to the SAS Late Models, the Steel-Head Limited Late Models and Crate Late Models will compete for $1,200 in top prize money. Also the A and B Hobby divisions will be in attendance but the Pony and Front Wheel Drive classes will have the evening off. The SAS Super Late Models will see a full show of Practice, WhitePerformance.com Qualifying, Heat Races, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns and the 50-lap Schaeffer Oil Feature event.
A busy month of March continues after the Shamrock 50 event with a visit to the East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on March 16th for the 28th Annual Jimmy Thomas Memorial event paying $4,000 to win and then the series rolls to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on March 23rd paying $5,000 to win for the Rockin’ with the Stars event.
