Chad Ogle Dominates Iron-Man Mountain Championship at Tazewell Speedway

    By Chris Tilley

TAZEWELL, Tenn. (July 2, 2016)—Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Tenn. became the fifth different winner in five races of the Iron-Man Mountain Championship after he scored the $5,000 payday in the Firecracker 40 presented by Claiborne Marine on Saturday Night at Tazewell Speedway.

Ogle led flag-to-flag in the main event while driving the GEO Services and Geotechnical & Materials Engineers-sponsored Rocket Chassis.

Chad Ogle would dominate from the drop of Bruce Caylor’s green flag while outside front-row starter Steve Smith settled for second and David Payne third. Steve Smith slowed in turn three with fuel line problems to bring out the first caution flag. After several attempts to restart the race, Smith was finally able to rejoin the field and never lose a lap and go on to finish seventh in the main event.

Three cautions flags slowed the 40-lapper. Steve Smith brought out the first yellow flag on lap 21 and a multi-car pileup on the restart brought the field to a halt for a second time. The final yellow came on lap 29.

Chad Ogle was the fastest qualifier of the event with an 11.920 seconds. Rounding out the top-five in the feature race behind Chad Ogle were David Payne, Billy Ogle Jr., Vic Hill and Ricky Weiss.

The tour will resume action on Friday August 5th with the 30-lap $3,000-to-win Mountain Dirt Classic at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, Ky. and the 40-lap $5,000-to-win Hatfield and McCoy Feuding 50 on Saturday August 6th at 201 Speedway in Sita, Ky.
