Jake Knowles Surges to Salute to America Triumph
Rome, Georgia (07/05/17) –Jake Knowles took his Knowles Race Parts & Bodies #66 Brucebilt Performance Rocket Chassis to Victory Lane for the first time in 2017 on Sunday night. His maiden voyage to the winner’s podium came at East Alabama Motor Speedway with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.
“They always say that the first one is the hardest one, so hopefully that’s the truth and we can get some more victories pretty quick,†Knowles laughed. “We’ve been good the past month or so, and it’s great to finally get a win to show for it.â€
After Mother Nature postponed the opening night of the Salute to America Nationals, Jake Knowles headed to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama) on Sunday for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series sanctioned program. Failing to lock his spot into the feature via qualifying with the 14th-fastest time, Knowles secured his way into the show with a B-Main victory from the 6th-starting position.
Rolling off 12th for the A-Main, Jake paced his way into a podium spot by lap 35. Taking advantage of a late-race restart, Jake took control of the lead on lap 39 and outran the field in the remaining 11 circuits picking up his first win of the season and a $2,500 payday. Chase Edge, Dylan Knowles, Montana Dudley, and Jordy Nipper completed the Top 5 finishers.
On Monday night Knowles stopped at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) to battle for the $2,000 top prize. With a stout field of 38 Crate Late Models on hand, Jake posted the fifth-fastest time in qualifying, locking him into the 10th-starting spot for the feature. Bringing home a podium finish, Jake Knowles advanced through the field eight positions, notching a runner-up finish behind Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) with Brad Berry, Austin Horton, and Jimmy Elliott rounding out the Top 5.
Tuesday’s Southern Nationals Bonus Series event at North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) was postponed due to persistent rain in the area.
