Ricky Weiss Rolls to Double-Win Weekend
Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/09/17) –Ricky Weiss rolled to a pair of wins last week in his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 A.I.E. Communications/ Bloomquist Chassis Late Model. His 2017-win tally now sits at nine.
“We didn’t have the weekend we wanted in the Super Late Model at the USA Nationals, but apart from that last week was a great week for our team,†Weiss commented. “The NASCAR win on Saturday night at Cedar Lake was really special because I had to beat a stout field to get that win.â€
Thursday night found Ricky Weiss back in action with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) at Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minnesota) for Thursday Night Thunder. From the pole position Weiss coasted to a heat race win, positioning him 3rd on the starting grid for the feature. After overtaking the leader on the second lap, Weiss held off Sprint Car standout Donny Schatz in the closing circuits to pick up his fourth-straight win and eighth overall on the season. Pocketing a $1,100 payday, Ricky topped Schatz, Ryan Mikkelson, Brad Seng, and Don Shaw at the finish line.
Friday night brought Weiss to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series sanctioned weekend. Drawing 42 Super Late Models for the 30th annual USA Nationals, Ricky secured his spot into the $6,000-to-win opening night feature with a 4th-place finish in his heat race. Rolling off 16th, Weiss gained five spots in the 30-lapper to place 11th.
Later Friday evening, Weiss posted a 6th-place finish in his heat race, which sent him into the B-Main on Saturday night. Needing to place in the Top 3 to make the $50,000-to-win finale, Ricky fell short with a 5th-place outing sending him into the Last Chance Qualifier for one final shot at the main event. With only the top-two finishers moving onto the 100-lapper, Ricky Weiss logged a 6th-place finish ending his night.
In the NASCAR Late Model division, Ricky wheeled his way from the 4th-starting position to pick up his ninth win of the season over Darrell Nelson, Jake Redetzke, Nick Anvelink, and AJ Diemel.
On Sunday night Weiss stopped at Sheyenne River Speedway (Lisbon, North Dakota) returning with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA). With 28 Super Late Models signed in, Ricky passed five cars in his heat race to place 2nd behind Brad Seng. Rolling off 6th for the $1,200-to-win A-Main, Ricky Weis jumped up two positions posting a 4th place finish behind Don Shaw, Brad Seng, and Dustin Strand with Donny Schatz coming in 5th.
