Dereck Ramirez Breaks Through at Rapid Speedway

Woodward, Oklahoma (08/29/17) – Dereck Ramirez broke through on Friday night to park his Ramirez Motorsports #4r LG2 by Owens/Cornett Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified in Victory Lane.

The win marked his first with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) since February 13, 2015.

“Man it felt good to get back to Victory Lane,” Ramirez said. “We’ve been really good this year, but we’ve just come up a little short. Tonight that all changed, and we put it all together. Hopefully now that we broke the seal, we can go out and get some more wins before the year is over.”

Kicking off the 10th round of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Hunt’s for Casey’s Cup, Dereck Ramirez invaded Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) on Wednesday night for the 11th annual Hamilton County Hullabaloo presented by Casey’s General Stores. Holding his spot in his heat, Ramirez scored a 3rd-place finish, earning him the 9th-starting position for the opening night feature. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Dereck improved three spots in the 35-lapper to place 6th.

On Thursday night with 23 cars on hand at Nobles County Speedway (Worthington, Minnesota) for the 7th annual USMTS Summer Slam presented by Pace Performance, Ramirez secured his spot into the $3,000-to-win A-Main with a 4th-place finish in his heat. Rolling off 12th on the grid, Dereck charged through the field seven positions notching a 5th-place finish behind Rodney Sanders, Cade Dillard, Jake O’Neil, and Ryan Gustin.

Making the 12th stop of the tour, Dereck headed to Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) on Friday evening for the 7th annual USMTS Rapid Rumbles presented by Casey’s General Stores. Rolling off from the pole of his heat race, Ramirez cruised to an 8-lap heat race win, positioning him 4th on the starting grid for the A-Main.

Working his way into the lead by lap 6, Dereck held the top spot until lap 23 when Rodney Sanders took the lead for the next six circuits. Wrestling away the top spot on lap 30, Dereck Ramirez regained the lead and held off the field in the remaining 10 laps to capture his first win of the season and a $5,000 payday. Ryan Gustin, Rodney Sanders, Cade Dillard, and Stormy Scott completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.

Following a rainout on Saturday night at Park Jefferson Speedway (North Sioux City, South Dakota), Dereck stopped at Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota) on Sunday for the 2nd annual Sandy Benson Memorial presented by Riddle’s Jewelry and Jurgens Printing.
