Ricky Weiss Wins Again in the Desert
Manitoba Racer Excited About 2018 Potential
Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (01/17/18) – Saturday night found Ricky Weiss parking his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Racing Engine Late Model in Victory Lane for the second time in the 12th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout.
“We won last Saturday, and then it seemed like for a couple of nights there that we were snake bitten. Some things that went wrong were my fault, while others were just out of our control,†Weiss said. “We were able to end the final three rounds with three great runs. The one thing for sure is that we have an awesome racecar. I can’t thank Scott (Bloomquist) enough for providing me with such a great car. I really think this could be a big year for us.â€
Wednesday night found Ricky Weiss returning to action at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) for round three of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. After laying down the fastest-time overall in his group on his first lap in qualifying, Ricky made hard contact with the wall on his second lap. The ensuing damage prevented him from competing in his heat race. Rolling off on the tail of his B-Main, Weiss broke a driveshaft before the race began, ending his night early.
Competing in a field of 46 cars on Friday night, Weiss followed up the fastest time in his qualifying group with a heat race win. Starting the feature in third, Ricky jumped up one spot in the 30-lapper notching a runner-up finish behind Mike Marlar with Bobby Pierce, Chris Simpson, and Earl Pearson Jr. completing the Top 5 finishers.
On Saturday night, Weiss locked his spot into the main event with a heat race win. Receiving the pole position for the feature after the redraw, Ricky Weiss led wire-to-wire en route to his second win of the season and a $5,000 payday. Cade Dillard, Ryan Gustin, Brandon Sheppard, and Don Shaw rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.
Wrapping up the 12th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout on Sunday, Ricky landed a runner-up finish in his heat behind Brandon Sheppard, positioning him seventh on the starting grid for the $13,000-to-win A-Main.
Wheeling his way into a podium spot, Weiss gained four spots to finish third behind Brandon Sheppard and Mike Marlar with Don Shaw and Cade Dillard trailing them to the line.
