Austin Theiss Scores First Win of 2018; Cotton Bowl on Deck
Hockley, Texas (04/09/18) – Austin Theiss turned a wet-weather weekend into his first win of the year. The Texas racer was able to dodge the miserable weather that plagued much of the country.
Staying close to home he piloted his Hass Horizontal #7D Saye Plumbing Contractors/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Vic Hill Race Engine Super Late Model to the victory at Battleground Speedway.
“Rain washed away our original plans, and I’ve really been looking for some speed here lately, so we decided to head to Battleground Speedway to do some testing,†Theiss commented. “The night went really well, and while I think we still have work to do, we were able to definitely make some gains. Thanks to my team and all of our awesome sponsors. Hopefully, now that we’ve got the first win out of the way we can knock down some more pretty soon.â€
After Mother Nature wiped out the weekend’s annual Bad Boy 98 at Bateville Motor Speedway (Batesville, Arkansas), Austin Theiss made the decision to make the short trip to Battleground Speedway (Highlands, Texas) on Saturday evening for the regular night of racing.
Improving one spot in his heat race, Theiss landed a runner-up finish, which secured him a front-row starting spot for the main event. Taking control of the lead early, Austin Theiss cruised to his first win of the season in the feature.

Theiss will again be in action in his home state this weekend. On Saturday night he’ll invade Cotton Bowl Speedway (Paige, Texas) to compete in the 2018 season opener for the Southern Texas Late Model Series.
“We’ve had success at Cotton Bowl Speedway in the past so I’m really looking forward to racing there this weekend,†Theiss added. “There aren’t many options to run touring races around Texas, so I like to support the series whenever I can.â€
