Jimmy Mars Sweeps Two Divisions at Red Cedar; Guns for Another Dream Title!

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

    June 6, 2018

Jimmy Mars Sweeps Two Divisions at Red Cedar; Guns for Another Dream Title!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars unloaded both a Late Model and an Open Wheel Modified at his hometown Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin on Friday night, June 1 and promptly swept the racing program in both divisions! Behind the wheel of his father-in-law Paul Gilberts #28 MB Customs Late Model, Jimmy won his heat race from the fourth starting spot and later rolled off from the outside of the fourth row in the weekly A-Main. The popular driver known as the "Iceman" was on the move early and often during the headliner and eventually found his way to the point to bag the $1,000 payday ahead of Mike Prochnow, Jesse Glenz, Mark Hessler, and Michael Keller!

In Open Wheel Modified action, Jimmy took advantage of the opportunity to shake his MB Customs ride down for the upcoming $40,000 to win 'Modified Masters' at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, which will take place on June 14-16. At Red Cedar, Jimmy scored a heat race triumph prior to starting the 30-lap main event from the outside of the front row. The Menomonie native then thrilled his hometown fans by claiming his second feature win of the evening in dominant fashion, as he collected the $1,000 paycheck in the special event over Mike Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Jordan Hessler, and Kevin Eder! “It’s always fun to race around home and even better when you can run well or win,” stated Mars recently via telephone. “We wanted to get some laps on that Modified in preparation for the big Cedar Lake race in a few weeks, so I think we got that accomplished and now we will turn our focus to Eldora. Last year, we had a chance to win both of the prelims before finishing second and third and then we had a pretty competitive car in running seventh in the big race. Hopefully, we can show that kind of speed again this year and be a threat to win the Dream for a second time. That would be awesome to get back into victory lane there!”

One of the biggest events of the 2018 season takes center stage this upcoming weekend (June 7-9) on the hallowed grounds of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The 24th running of the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ will take place at the 1/2-mile, high-banked speedplant in Darke County this weekend and Eldora has posted a total purse approaching $400,000. The three-day crown jewel spectacular will start with a pair of Twin 25 programs with each 25-lapper on Thursday night paying $5,000 to the winner and both 25-lap affairs on Friday evening boasting a $10,000 top prize.

The stakes will raise exponentially on Saturday, as the star-studded field will dwindle down to 28 feature starters. Each driver that transfers into the 100-lap ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ will receive at least $2,500, while one lucky driver will bring home the hefty $100,000 windfall. Jimmy has transferred into eleven ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ headliners in his career and captured the huge six-figure win back in 1997 when he burst onto the Dirt Late Model scene in one of the most-talked about races ever.
