Spencer Hughes Scores Top-10 Finish in LOLMDS Debut
Hughes Advances Thirteen Positions in Clash at the Mag Finale
Laurel, Mississippi (06/21/18) – 17-year-old Spencer Hughes entered his first-career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event over the weekend. After getting off to a slow start the young racer came to life in the 100-lap finale by passing 13 cars in the finale to finish 10th behind the wheel of the L&D Trucking #10 Longhorn Chassis by Weaver/ Cornett Thunder Racing Engine Super Late Model.
“We didn’t perform as well as I would’ve liked in qualifying and heat race action, and we came up just a little short of transferring from the B-Main to the finale. Thankfully we received a fast-time provisional for the feature, and were able to capitalize,†Hughes said. “In the feature I kept my nose clean early, and as the race went along we got better and better. To get a Top-10 finish in my first race against this caliber of driver is really awesome.
“I would like to thank everyone with Henderson Motorsports and all of our great sponsors for this opportunity.â€
On Friday evening Spencer Hughes and the Henderson Motorsports team traveled to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) to take part in the two-day Clash at the Mag.
With 28 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand, Hughes came up one spot short of a transfer spot in his heat race with a seventh-place finish. Transferring into the B-Main on Saturday for another shot at the main event, Spencer fell short of a transfer spot into the show with a sixth-place outing.
Receiving a fast-time provisional into the $20,000-to-win A-Main, Spencer Hughes advanced through the field 13 spots in the 100-lap affair reeling in an impressive 10th-place finish.
For his efforts he received the Optima Batteries Hard Charger of the Race Award
