Dennis Erb, Jr. Knocks Down Top Five in Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee!
(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Dennis Erb Racing ventured to the Southeast for a trio of scheduled Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series battles from July 5-7 in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. With inclement weather taking the win on Thursday at Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina and on Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee, the lone event to escape the clutches of Mother Nature was held on Friday evening at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. A stout field of 30 competitors signed into the pit area at the storied speedplant to vie for the $12,000 top prize in the 20th edition of the 'Grassy Smith Memorial.'
Dennis Erb, Jr. logged the tenth fastest time in Group A during the qualifying session before maneuvering his #28 machine to the front in his heat race to score the prelim win. After starting third on the grid in the 50-lap main event, Dennis hung around the front of the stellar starting field and eventually recorded an impressive fifth place performance behind only victor Scott Bloomquist, Brandon Overton, Josh Richards, and Don O'Neal. The Carpentersville, Illinois standout is now up to twelfth in the latest version of the LOLMDS point standings following the visit to Gaffney. The #28 team will continue the hectic month of July with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series over the July 13-14 weekend with a pair of $12,000 to win throwdowns in the states of Illinois and Missouri. Dennis will be in action in the ‘NAPA Know How 50’ on Friday evening at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and on Saturday night in the 12th Annual ‘Diamond Nationals’ at the state-of-the-art Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
