Rodney Sanders Thunders to $8,000 Win in Silver Dollar Nationals
Adds Wins at Southern Iowa Speedway and Mason City Motor Speedway
Happy, Texas (07/23/18) – Rodney Sanders enjoyed a stellar week of racing behind the wheel of his Wichita Tank Racing #20 DriveWFX.com/ Swan Energy MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.
He picked up an $8,000 win in the annual Silver Dollar Nationals on Saturday night, and sandwiched it with an USMTS win on Wednesday night at Southern Iowa Speedway and an USRA win on Sunday night at Mason City Motor Speedway.
“Man, what an incredible week for this team,†an elated Sanders commented. “We’ve had a really good car all year, but we’ve just had random issues keep us from winning more races. It all came together this past week, and we were able pick up three big wins.â€
On Tuesday night the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) returned to action at Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) for the 12th annual Webster City Wrangle presented by AmericInn. Passing one car in his heat race, Sanders recorded a 2nd place finish behind Lucas Schott positioning him 8th on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Breaking into the Top-5, Rodney gained four spots to place 4th behind Johnny Scott, Lucas Schott, and Stormy Scott with Casey Arneson coming in 5th.
Wednesday night brought 26 USMTS followers to Southern Iowa Speedway (Oskaloosa, Iowa) for the 11th annual Summit Racing Summer Classic. Jumping up one spot in his 8-lap heat, Sanders cruised to a heat race victory earning him second-starting position for the feature. Leading wire-to-wire, Rodney Sanders streaked to his sixth win of the season, topping Stormy Scott, Johnny Scott, Terry Phillips, and Lucas Schott at the line. He claimed a $2,500 payday for his dominant performance in the 30-lapper.
On Friday night the USMTS rolled into I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) for the 8th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals. In a field of 36 cars, Sanders dropped one spot in his first heat to finish second behind Tyler Wolff. Rolling off ninth in his second heat race, Rodney streaked through the field seven spots to record a runner-up finish behind Jason Hughes. Earning a spot into the Moock Trucking Qualifier, Rodney scored a runner-up finish behind Lucas Schott securing his spot into the redraw for the main event on Saturday night.
After receiving the pole position in the redraw, Rodney Sanders led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to capture his seventh win of the season and a $8,000 payday. Jason Hughes, Lucas Schott, Zack VanderBeek, and Stormy Scott completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.
On Sunday night Rodney Sanders stopped at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) to do battle in the United States Racing Association (USRA) sanctioned program. Starting sixth for a make-up feature from June 24th, Sanders passed three cars, reeling in a third-place finish behind Corey Dripps and Carter VanDenBerg with Lance Mari and J.D. Auringer rounding out the Top-5.
Later that night a full program was contested, and Sanders streaked to a heat race win from the seventh-starting position. Starting the feature in ninth, Rodney passed Brandon Hare for the lead near the halfway point and went on to claim his eighth victory on the year. Topping Hare, Nate Hughes, Aaron Benson, and Scott Olson at the line, Rodney Sanders pocketed a $2,000 prize.
On the reels of his recent performances, Rodney has jumped to second in the Hunt for the Casey's Cup point standings with his recent performances.
