Ricky Weiss Finishes Fourth in Inaugural Dirt Million
Four-Race Weekend Lies Ahead
Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/29/18) – Ricky Weiss continued to shine bright in major events over the weekend. The chauffer of the Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model led early before ultimately recording a fourth-place finish in the inaugural Dirt Million.
“Even though it wasn’t a win I couldn’t be more thrilled with our team having another great run in a major event,†Weiss said. “We got to the lead there, and I thought we might really have a race-winning car, but then we got shuffled back on a restart. I spent the next several laps rebounding from the slip. A fourth-place finish is pretty awesome in such a huge event. We’re going to race close to home this weekend and get geared up to go and try win our first World 100 next weekend.â€
On Friday evening Ricky Weiss invaded Mansfield Motor Speedway (Mansfield, Ohio) to compete in the inaugural Dirt Million with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. With a stout field of 77 Super Late Models on hand for a pair of preliminary features, Weiss jumped up one spot in his heat race to place second behind Jonathan Davenport.
Earning the fifth-starting position for the $10,000-to-win opening night A-Main, Ricky passed three cars in the 30-lapper reeling in a runner-up finish behind Davenport with Don O’Neal, Devin Moran, and Shannon Babb completing the Top-5 finishers.
With his spot already locked into Saturday’s $202,940-to-win finale, Weiss raced to a third-place finish in the Dash, which positioned him third on the starting grid in front of the capacity crowd.
Overtaking Don O’Neal for the lead on the lap-10, Ricky held the top spot for the next five circuits until Shannon Babb took control for the ensuing 60 laps. Weiss slipped back to as far as the eighth position by the race’s midway point before bouncing back to a fourth-place finish behind Earl Pearson Jr., Bobby Pierce, and Gregg Satterlee with Scott Bloomquist rounding out the Top 5.

The Labor Day weekend has Weiss set to enter a quartet of events in Canada and the United States. Action opens on Thursday night at Red River Co-op Speedway before moving to I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) on Friday night. Saturday and Sunday night will find the team entering a doubleheader with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) at Viking Speedway (Alexandria, Minnesota).
