Shane Clanton Opens 2019 WoO Season with Winter Freeze IX Win
48th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Up Next

Zebulon, Georgia (02/10/19) – Shane Clanton made a triumphant start to his 2019 season with a $10,000 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory on Saturday night in the Winter Freeze IX at Screven Motor Speedway.

The win marked his first WoO conquest since August 2017 and came aboard his Weldbank Energy #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“It feels real good,” Clanton said. “To go almost a year and a half… like I said at the banquet [last year], it just makes you mad. And the guy who wins, it just makes him more determined to come back and win again, and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve worked awful hard over the winter to build a new racecar here.”

Clanton went on to talk about the team’s adjustment that transformed a seventh-place finish on Friday night’s opener into a victory on Saturday night.

“We made the wrong adjustment last night in the heat race and started on the pole and ran third. Tonight, we kept our spot and got us a good redraw. Starting on the pole was probably key, but our car was awful good the first five or six laps when I caught lapped traffic there. I’ve got to give hats off to my guys.”

Kicking off the 2019 season, Shane Clanton was one of 39 World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series competitors on hand at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Georgia) on Friday night for the Winter Freeze IX.

Timing in second fastest in his qualifying group behind Brandon Sheppard, Clanton went on to finish third in his heat race, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Improving five spots in the 50-lapper, Shane reeled in a seventh-place finish.

On Saturday evening, Clanton followed up the second-fastest time in his group with a 10-lap, heat race victory. Earning the pole position for the A-Main, Shane jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and led wire-to-wire en route to his first victory of the season. Kyle Hardy, Chase Junghans, Brandon Sheppard, and Michael Norris rounded out the Top-5 finishers. He was awarded a $10,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 50-lap affair.

With two events complete, Shane, who was the 2015 series champion, currently leads the World of Outlaws point standings. Full results from the weekend are available at www.WoOLMS.com .

This week – February 11-16 – Shane will carry his momentum into the 48th annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida). On Monday and Tuesday the programs will be headlined by $7,000-to-win, DIRTcar UMP Modified features. Wednesday through Saturday’s races will each feature a $10,000-to-win program with the WoO Morton Buildings Late Model Series.
