Austin Horton Wires Southern Nationals Field at Rome
ULTIMATE Super Late Models at Dixie Speedway Up Next
Newnan, Georgia (07/23/19) – Austin Horton wired the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Super Late Model field on Sunday night at Rome Speedway in his Vape’s Gone Wild No. 16 Wood Motorsports/ Orr’s Towing/ Super K Express/ XR1 Rocket Chassis by Clint Smith/ Clements Race Engine Super Late Model.
“I couldn’t ask for a better race car, this XR1 Rocket,†Horton said in Victory Lane. “It was just fun to drive. I could put it wherever I wanted. I was finally glad to outrun Michael [Page]. He didn’t have no flat tires or none of that stuff. I had a lot of heat behind me. To outrun ‘em all is a chore because most of ‘em get to do this for a living, and I gotta go to work in the morning.â€
With Mother Nature washing out Friday’s event at Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia), Austin Horton entered the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals on Sunday at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia).
In a field of 23 entries, Horton laid down the fastest time in his group, which positioned him on the pole for the A-Main. Jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag, Austin survived a mid-race challenge from Michael Page to secure his fifth win of the season. Page, Jason Croft, Brandon Overton, and Donald McIntosh completed the Top-5 finishers. He was awarded a $5,300 payday for his winning performance.
“My crew guys, Ashton and Blake, they did a good job telling me where to be on the racetrack and what time I needed to be there. I think what slowed me down was getting by some of them lapped cars,†Horton commented. “They were a little treacherous. Once I got by them, they spread the [signaling] sticks. It makes you feel good when they can spread the sticks.
“I want to thank all of my sponsors for their great support. I also want to thank Allstar Graphix for always keeping my cars looking awesome.â€
