Ashton Winger Claims Career Win in Billy Clanton Classic
FALS Frenzy Up Next for Ashton Winger

Hampton, Georgia (10/01/19) – Sunday evening at Senoia Raceway was an emotional time for 19-year-old Ashton Winger and his family. The gumbo oval was the scene of the richest payday of the Georgia driver’s young career. He piloted his Johnny Doan Plumbing No. 12 E-Z-Go/ Keyser Manufacturing/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to a $10,150 triumph in the annual Billy Clanton Classic.

“I’ve wanted to win this race right up there with all of them,” Winger said in victory lane. “If anybody knows me, they know the Clanton family is like my family. I really appreciate all they do. Shane’s like my dad. Rusty and Joey taught me how to race. This is so awesome.

“I bided my time there early in the race and was able to get past [Chris] Madden in lapped traffic. This is such an awesome feeling to win this race. I want to thank everyone, who supports my racing program. Their amazing support is the reason I got this win.”

After Mother Nature shifted the event from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon, Ashton Winger was one of 33 Schaeffer’s Fall Nationals Series entries registered at Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) for the Billy Clanton Classic. After recording the fastest lap in qualifications, Winger cruised to a 10-lap heat race victory which positioned him second on the starting grid for the main event.

Overtaking polesitter Chris Madden on lap 15 as the duo battled through lapped traffic, Ashton dominated the remaining 45 circuits to capture his seventh win of the season and a $10,025 payday. He also received a $125 bonus for being the leader at the midway point of the finale. Madden, Shane Clanton, Clint Smith, and Casey Roberts trailed him to the checkers.
