Jimmy Mars Starts 2020 Racing Season Out West; Launches New Website!
(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars kicked off a new decade of racing over the past several weeks, as he and his Mars Racing team trekked west to enter three races during the inaugural ‘Battle at the Border’ at Vado Speedway Park in Vado, New Mexico from January 3-5 and six events during the 14th Annual ‘Wild West Shootout’ at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona from January 11-19. Debuting a new yellow paint scheme with marketing partners Veit and Vonco, Jimmy battled through some ups and downs during his season-opening trip, but was able to amass an impressive runner-up performance and an additional top ten showing.
Both of his best runs occurred during the ‘Wild West Shootout’ at Arizona Speedway. On Wednesday night, January 15 in a $5,000 to win midweek throwdown, Jimmy laid down the second quickest time in his group during qualifying before securing a heat race triumph. He then drew the pole position for the 30-lap main event and ran amongst the top three throughout the entire distance. At the checkers, the popular driver known as “The Iceman†found himself in the runner-up spot for his best finish of the young season behind only victor Brandon Sheppard!
At Arizona Speedway on Saturday, January 11 in the miniseries lid lifter, Jimmy earned Fast Time honors in his group during the qualifying session prior to placing second in heat race action. After starting the 40-lap feature event from the outside of the fifth row, Jimmy drove up to eighth early in the race and eventually guided his #28 MB Customs mount to a solid ninth place effort in the $5,000 to win contest. You can read a full race-by-race recap from each show in New Mexico and Arizona by clicking on www.JimmyMarsRacing.com.
The Mars Racing team will now take the next couple of months off to wait for the weather to improve across the Upper Midwest. Weather pending, their next scheduled event at this point will be the annual running of the ‘Illini 100’ at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on April 3-4. Jimmy will vie for the $6,000 top prize in the weekend opener on that Friday, while a $15,000 winner’s check awaits the victor of the grand finale on Saturday evening at the 1/4-mile fairgrounds oval. The Menomonie, Wisconsin Hall of Famer won the ‘Illini 100’ back in 2012 and will be gunning for his second race title.
