SHREVEPORT, La. (08/19/20) – Earl Pearson Jr. took his Lucas Oil No. 1 P&W Sales/ Drive4Etch.com/ Clements Racing Engine/ Black Diamond Chassis House Car to a Top-10 finish Saturday at Florence (Ky.) Speedway.

After a scheduled two-weekend break, the Black Diamond Race Team returned to the Lucas Oil Late Model Series on Wednesday at Florence Speedway - kicking off four-straight nights at the half-mile oval with the 34th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial.

Following the third fastest lap in his time trial group, Pearson grabbed the third and final transfer spot in his heat race, which positioned him 18th on the starting grid for the $12,000-to-win A-Main. Improving two spots in the 50-lap affair, Earl registered a 16th place finish.

The following night for the Sunoco North/South Shootout presented by Lucas Oil, Earl secured his spot into the main event with a second-place finish in his heat race behind Mike Marlar. With $10,000 on the line, Pearson advanced one spot in the 50-lapper to place 11th.

On Friday, the field competed in a pair of passing points heat races. The combined points from both rounds would determine the grid for the Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil. Earl picked up a 12-lap heat race victory in his first heat race before Mother Nature pushed the second round of heats to Saturday.

Returning on Saturday afternoon, Earl passed five cars in his second heat race to finish fourth, locking him into the fifth-starting position for the $50,000-to-win finale. Fading three spots in the 100-lap affair, Pearson notched an eighth-place finish.

“We’re still looking to get some consistency back, that’s what you’ve got to have in this series with this level of competition,” Pearson noted. “We’re working to figure out what we need to do get us in a better position day in and day out. I think we’re making steps in the right direction.”

Pearson now turns his attention to the 28th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark. The event, which will be co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series, will feature $5,000-to-win programs on Thursday and Friday. The weekend culminates with a $40,000-to-win finale on Saturday.
