Dale McDowell Claims Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Championship
Double Dirt Late Model Dreams at Eldora Speedway Up Next
MOORESBURG, Tenn. (06/01/21) – Dale McDowell has added another accolade to his Hall of Fame resume. Via his performances over the holiday weekend, he clinched his second-career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals championship in his Shane McDowell Racing/ E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets/ Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Team Zero Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
“We didn’t get any wins this weekend, but we did get the series championship. We had a really good chance to go to Victory Lane on Sunday evening at Rome (Speedway), but the flat tire got us. We were able to rebound to fifth though, and that was important in the championship battle,†McDowell said. “We came away with three Top-5 finishes, so we’ll take that and get ready for the double Dirt Late Model Dreams at Eldora next week.â€
Shane McDowell Racing pilot Dale McDowell lifted the lid on his Memorial Day weekend on Saturday afternoon at Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Ga.) with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals opener. Locked into the eighth-starting position for the opening night feature via his qualifying effort, Dale gained four spots in the 40-lapper to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Randy Weaver, Brandon Overton, and Austin Horton across the line with Zack Mitchell coming in fifth.
The following night at Rome Speedway (Rome, Ga.), McDowell topped the charts in his group in time trials, which positioned him on the pole for the $4,053-to-win A-Main. After setting the pace for the first 10 circuits, Dale suffered a flat right-rear tire that sent him to the infield. Charging from the tail of the field to finish fifth, McDowell trailed Tyler Millwood, Donald McIntosh, Jason Croft, and Randy Weaver to the checkers.
To wrap up the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals slate on Monday, Dale stopped at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the ninth annual Scott Sexton Memorial. With preliminary results lining him up fourth on the starting grid for the $10,052-to-win finale, McDowell held his spot in the 52-lapper to finish fourth.
His trio of Top-5 finishes over the weekend secured McDowell his second straight Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals points title. He earned $10,053 for his championship-winning performance.

Shane McDowell Racing will be idle this weekend as they prepare for double Dirt Late Model Dreams at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway on June 9-12. The money-laden, four-day stretch will see the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream contested on Wednesday-Thursday, June 9-10, culminating in a $127,000-to-win finale.
On Friday-Saturday, June 11-12 the pandemic delayed 26th edition of the mega event will take center stage with a $126,000-to-win feature wrapping up the weekend.
Dale picked up the $100,000 triumph in the 2014 edition of the Dirt Late Model Dream.
