Ray Cook Racing Nabs Top Five in Visit to Sugar Creek Raceway
(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) “The Tarheel Tiger†Ray Cook was back behind the wheel of his own #53 entry on Saturday evening, July 3 in a Super Late Model clash at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The unsanctioned race paid out a $1,500 top prize. Ray clicked off the sixth fastest lap overall during the qualifying session to earn the outside of the third row for the start of the 25-lap feature event. The Brasstown, North Carolina standout was then able to climb up inside of the top five in the contest to eventually record a solid fifth place outing in a race that was won by Murphy native Kurt English. With inclement weather set to hamper events across the area over the July 9-10 weekend, along with the start of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series next weekend, Ray and his #53 team will likely sit idle for the rest of the month of July. Ray will be busy; however, overseeing and promoting the Southern Nationals Series, which will sanction 12 events at 12 different venues in the states of West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina from July 16-31.
