ALMOST PERFECT: Cole Vanderheiden pads stat sheet with impressive four-race stretch through the Midwest

PAPILLION, Neb. (Sept. 1, 2026) — An impressive stretch, nonetheless, Papillion, Nebraska's Cole Vanderheiden was all but perfect in his recent four-race campaign through much of the Midwest, earning four straight top-fives and two victories in the process - each of which accomplished in different divisions.
Vanderheiden, now with four wins on the season, earned the back-to-back victories Thursday and Friday, Aug. 27-28, at Worthington Speedway in Worthington, Minnesota, and Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, Nebraska. The former came during Gopher Midgets competition, while the latter was earned in the 305 Sprint ranks. Although no stranger to 305 Sprint Victory Lane, the Midget triumph marked Vanderheiden’s first of the season in the division and came during his first visit to Worthington this year.
Vanderheiden, who mistakenly misjudged his lead as he raced to his first Gopher Midgets win of the season, told the infield reporter, “I thought they were right behind me, so I was going as hard as I could.” He had nearly a five-second advantage over the field at the time.
Vanderheiden followed the two victories with additional top-five finishes during visits to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska, and Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, on Aug. 29-30, finishing second and fifth, respectively, in 305 Sprint competition. The strong weekend sets the Papillion, Nebraska, racer up for a big week at Eagle Raceway, which hosts the 14th annual RaceSaver Nationals over Labor Day Weekend.
The postponed 2025 RaceSaver Nationals championship feature will be contested Thursday evening, with Vanderheiden scheduled to start 22nd after racing his way into the 27-car field through a consolation race. The 2026 RaceSaver Nationals will follow Saturday night, paying $14,000 to win and $1,700 to start.
