Dale McDowell Claims Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher
Leads Final Seven Laps for $12,018 Victory at Volunteer Speedway
MOORESBURG, Tenn. (Sept. 21, 2026) — Dale McDowell helped carry Scott Bloomquist’s legacy back to victory lane Thursday night at Volunteer Speedway.
McDowell drove the Shane McDowell Racing No. 17m Team Zero Race Car to a $12,018 victory in the Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher, securing his third win of the 2026 season in the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event.
"I hate it for Chris (Madden), he had problems with the right front. Me and him had a pretty equal car there, so you always hate to see that happen, I had to take advantage of that," McDowell said. "This race is all for the Scott Bloomquist fans and the Bloomquist family and this is one of his cars. This was a special place to him and we worked together, him and (car owner) Shane (McDowell) worked really hard together on these things and he accomplished so much in his career. For us to be able to still run these cars and carry that legacy on, it’s pretty special."
The victory came on familiar ground for McDowell, whose Mooresburg, Tennessee, shop sits just a short drive from the 4/10-mile Volunteer Speedway. The Georgia native qualified third-fastest overall before winning his heat race to earn a spot in the evening’s feature.
McDowell stalked pacesetter Chris Madden early, then pounced into the lead when the front-runner retired with mechanical issues. He led the final seven laps en route to his 46th career Southern All Star Series victory and third Scorcher victory.

McDowell will take the remainder of September off before returning to action Oct. 2-3 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee, for the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series doubleheader.
