(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) The 46th Annual ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ was held on October 17-18 at West Virginia Motor Speedway and Dennis Erb Racing was in attendance at the refurbished oval. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series once again sanctioned the crown jewel event, which was held in Mineral Wells, West Virginia for the first time since 2010. A total of 68 Super Late Model competitors converged on WVMS for the DTWC and the action kicked off on Saturday with a pair of split-field, $5,000 to win prelim shows.
Dennis Erb, Jr. laid down the quickest lap in Group A during the qualifying session before slipping to finish fourth in his stacked heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the seventh row in his 25-lap main event, Dennis steered past seven competitors during the contest to finish in the sixth spot behind only winner Ricky Thornton, Jr., Dillon McCowan, Devin Moran, Chris Ferguson, and Max Blair. With a hefty $100,000 first place prize up for grabs in Sunday’s 100-lap headliner, the Carpentersville, Illinois standout started eighth on the grid prior to bringing home a strong ninth place effort.
