Evan Koehler Emerges Victorious at Portsmouth Raceway Park
Ricky Thornton Jr. Sweeps Halloween Nationals
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2026) — An already successful weekend for Koehler Motorsports got even better Saturday night at Portsmouth Raceway Park, when 18-year-old Evan Koehler added his name to the list of winners during the Halloween Nationals finale.
Evan delivered the biggest victory of his young career, outrunning teammate Ricky Thornton Jr. and Modified standout Cole Falloway in the DIRTcar Modified feature to collect the $10,000 payday. His win marked the third trip to Portsmouth's Victory Lane for Koehler Motorsports over the weekend.
“I couldn’t do it without Ricky and all my guys,” Koehler said in victory lane. “They help me get up and down the road every day. It’s really fun to be able to come and do this. We don’t get to race a whole lot, but it’s fun to be competitive when we do. Big turnaround from last night. I can’t thank my mom and dad enough for giving me the opportunity to do this and all the great people that help out.”
It was part of a busy weekend for Koehler Motorsports, with Evan and Thornton competing at the Ohio oval while Jordan Koehler traveled to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in North Carolina for the annual World Short Track Championship.
Thornton continued his incredible late-season run at Portsmouth, sweeping the Halloween Nationals and collecting $60,000 through the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series-sanctioned program. The weekend sweep extended his winning streak to six consecutive victories and capped a six-win month of October. With the latest additions, Thornton has now tallied 22 victories during the 2026 season.
Evan kicked off the two-day Halloween Nationals weekend with an 11th-place finish in Friday's opener before putting together a much stronger performance in Saturday's finale. He topped the 54-car Modified field in time trials with a blistering lap of 16.597 seconds before going on to win his heat race.
Starting from the pole in the feature, the North Carolina racer held off teammate Thornton and Modified standout Cole Falloway to secure the victory. The win marked his second triumph of the 2026 season.
Meanwhile, Jordan Koehler was pulling double duty at The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the World Short Track Championship. With preliminary action spread across Thursday and Friday, Koehler qualified for both Saturday features through his respective qualifiers.
He finished 23rd in the DIRTcar Modified feature before turning in a much stronger performance in the 525 Late Model main event, where he secured a podium finish alongside race winner Layton Sullivan and runner-up Trent Ivey.
