Ronny Lee Hollingsworth Tops Bama Brawl; Magnolia State 100 Next
Northport, Alabama (09/20/11) – After a rough start to the weekend Ronny Lee Hollingsworth turned things around on Saturday night with a $4,000 win in the 7th Annual Bama Brawl in his #18 Flynn Motorsports/ Warrior/Clement Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Friday night was an extremely frustrating night for the team as Hollingsworth made the trip to Boyd's Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia) for a $3,000-to-win, Volunteer Racing Series (VRS) event. Twenty-five cars would enter the event, but Ronny Lee would see his event quickly come to an end with electrical problems in hot laps. The team would spend the whole night debugging the problem before finally resolving the issue in preparation for Saturday night's event at North Alabama Speedway.
The team entered the 7th Annual Bama Brawl on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama) looking to not only put Friday night's bad luck behind him, but also the bad luck of the previous month. When the final checkered flag dropped on the $4,000-to-win event he would accomplish just that as he became the first driver to ever win more than one Bama Brawl title.
Thirty Super Late Models entered the event at the racy, 1/3 mile oval, and Hollingsworth started the night by setting fast time in his group and fast time overall to earn the pole position for the 40 lap feature with Josh Putnam starting alongside him. As the race went green Hollingsworth shot to the lead with Putnam, David Breazeale, and Ross Camponovo in pursuit. Hollingsworth would endure a series of cautions and would eventually jump to a ten car length advantage before the race's final caution flew with six laps remaining in the 40 lap event. As the race went green for the last time Hollingsworth would receive heavy pressure from Putnam, but would go on to claim the win, which was his third of the 2011 season. This weekend Hollingsworth will look to carry his momentum into his pursuit of his first ever Magnolia State 100 title in the 22nd edition of the event. The $20,011-to-win/$1,000-to-start event attracts some of the top national, regional, and local drivers each year to the 1/3 mile, "Baddest Bullring in the South." The event gets underway on Thursday with an open practice session before seeing time trials and heat races contested on Friday night. Saturday night will be headlined by b-mains, the last chance race, and the 100 lap finale. Full results are available at www.ColumbusSpeedway.net .
