Booper Bare scores a 4th place finish in debut run for Loco-Motives Team.â€The Bridge†up next…
Rockbridge Baths, Virginia’s Booper Bare made his driving debut for car owner Jim Stasiowski during this past weekend’s Winchester 200 at the high banked 3/8 mile oval. After rain forced the cancellation of the Friday portion of the program, the decision was made to run the event as a one day show on Saturday. The team unloaded the brand new flat black Loco-Motives sponsored Mastersbilt by Huey machine with much anticipation. After laying down what appeared to be 2 good time trial laps, the team was informed that the car’s transponder did not record with the track’s timing system. After a quick trip to the pits for a new transponder Booper was given another 2 laps at the end of qualifying. Even with being the final car to take time, Booper laid down the 18th quickest lap out of the 47 cars in attendance. Starting 9th in the second of two 25 lap heat races, knowing he need a top 12 finish to guarantee a starting spot in the 24 car starting field for the 48th running of the Winchester 200, Booper was up on the wheel from the green flag and was able to move up to 5th at the checkered. The team swarmed over the new car making the necessary changes in preparation for the 50 lap, $10,000 to win main event. Rolling off 10th on the grid, Booper put the Loco-Motives #37 up on the high side and steadily marched to front. After catching the 2nd & 3rd place running cars Booper got stuck in a lot of lap traffic that at one point seemed to be everywhere as the last 3/4 of the race produced non-stop side by side racing. When the dust settled and the checkered fell, Booper was awarded a fine 4th place finish for the new upstart team.
“I was extremely happy†said Booper. “These guys have worked so hard this past week putting this new car together and everything ran exceptionally well. It was a whole team effort between my guys, the Sprouse/Cromer Motorsports team and Huey. I was happy to bring home a good finish in the team’s first outing. Huey’s car worked great and the RoushYates powerplant performed flawlessly. To top it off Jim was in attendance and the DeHaven, Loco-Motives #1D won the race, so it was a good night all around. I’m very honored to be able to drive this car for Jim and the whole Loco-Motives organization. I can’t wait for Natural Bridge†added Bare.
The #37 team will enter this coming weekend’s $8,000 to win Sunoco Fall Classic at the beautiful Natural Bridge Speedway. Booper is a 2 time winner of this prestigious race having won the event in 2007 and again in 2008. Booper has expressed interest in doing double duty this coming weekend and there is a good chance you will see the Sprouse/Cromer #83 entered in the Steel Block Late Model portion of the weekend. After that it’s back on the hunt for the 2011 Steel Block Bandit’s championship as the Sprouse/Cromer Motorsports team will enter the next Bandit race on October 14th & 15th. The team will unload the Jimmy’s Tree Service/JC Body shop #83 trailing points leader Walker Arthur by only 8 points.
