R.J. Conley Cashes $2,000 Win at Portsmouth Raceway Park; Finishes Sixth in Southern 100
(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) R.J. Conley picked up his first victory of the 2012 racing season on Saturday night, June 16 at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio! R.J. set fast time during the qualifying session, ran second in the dash, and later led flag-to-flag in the main event to score the $2,000 triumph over Donnie Moran, Devin Moran, Jackie Boggs, and Josh Bocook. Earlier in the weekend, R.J. set fast time, finished third in his heat race, and later ran third in the $2,000 to win Qualifying Feature at the nearby Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, Ohio. The driver of the #71c then wound up sixth in the $10,000 to win 'Pepsi Southern 100' Championship Feature at SOS behind only winner Eddie Carrier Jr., Steve Francis, Greggie Oliver, Jackie Boggs, and Zack Dohm.
Delmas Conley was also in attendance at the same two programs over the June 15-16 weekend. At Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday night, Delmas finished eighth in the Qualifying Feature and was later credited with a fifteenth place performance in the 50-lap 'Southern 100' Championship Feature. On Saturday evening at PRP, the Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer ran third in heat race action, but later hit the wall in the feature event, which dropped him to a disappointing eighteenth place effort.
Last, but not least, Rod Conley also participated in a pair of high-profile shows last weekend. On Friday at SOS, "Hot Rod" finished fifth in the Qualifying Feature, but later suffered terminal mechanical problems during the $10,000 to win 'Pepsi Southern 100,' which relegated him to twentieth in the final rundown. The dirt-slinging action quickly turned to the Beckley Motorsports Park in Beckley, West Virginia on Saturday evening for the $10,000 to win 'Black Gold 50.' Rod, who finished sixth in his loaded heat race, advanced past nine competitors during the 50-lapper to score a hard-fought eighth place showing. Full results from the action-packed weekend can be found online at www.dirtondirt.com.
As this upcoming weekend approaches, R.J. and Delmas Conley will tackle the same two venues as they did last weekend. Both drivers will vie for the $2,000 top prizes on Friday night, June 22 at the Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, Ohio and on Saturday evening, June 23 at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. Rod Conley, on the other hand, just has a similar $2,000 to win show on his radar on Saturday at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky.
