Ray Cook Runner-Up in Big Daddy 500; Lucas Oil Doubleheader Ahead
(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The D&R Motorsports team and driver Ray Cook ventured to the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday evening, June 16 for a one-day Southern Allstars Dirt Racing Series showdown. Ray laid down the fifth quickest lap during the qualifying session at SMS, which locked him into the inside of the third row in the $5,000 to win 'Big Daddy 500.' During the course of the 50-lapper, the Brasstown, North Carolina native drove past three competitors en route to a stellar runner-up performance behind only winner Vic Hill. Ray and the #53 team will now turn their focus to a pair of high-profile Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series programs over the June 22-23 weekend in the states of South Carolina and Virginia. The historic Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina will take center stage on Friday night by hosting a $10,000 to win show, while the picturesque Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia will do the same on Saturday evening.
