Greg Lucas puts Revelution Chassis in Late Model Victory Lane at Lucky 7 Speedway… Falls One Spot Short of Doubling up.
The old saying of “Third time’s the charm†rings true for Hyden, Kentucky’s Greg Lucas. In only his third outing in the Kevin Ison owned super late model, Greg ended the night parked in Lucky 7 Speedway’s victory lane. The night got off to a rocky start when while leading his heat race a competitor got into the Hatcher Auto Sales/JAACO Mining Equipment #1 sending it around the ring. Having to restart at the tail end, a determined Lucas charged back through the field to win his qualifying race. As the feature rolled out, the teams were presented with a slick, dusty surface, which made passing a premium. Greg waited and made his move on a late race restart and led the final laps for the win.
“It was a great win for Kevin and the team†said Lucas from his Kentucky race shop. “I hate it that Oscar (McCown) had some mechanical problems late, I enjoy racing hard with him. The track tonight was pretty slick and real tough to pass on, we were just happy to start where we did. Days Racing Engines built us a new bullet last week and we had it in the car for the first time Saturday. The motor performed great, I can’t thank Oneal enough for everything he does for me. Kevin & Frank have given me a great opportunity to drive their Revelution Chassis and I am really enjoying it. So far it has been a good car and we can keep making it better. Mickey & Todd really worked hard all night and I appreciate everyone’s help and support. Hopefully this was one of many trips to victory lane as the season winds down†added Greg.
Not only was the late model part of the night exciting but so was the modified portion. Greg, doing double duty in the GT Racing, Pinetop Motors/Schaeffer Oil/Bill’s Marathon #32 modified, started the night with Mechanical issues forcing him and the team to withdraw from the remaining laps of the make-up event, rescheduled from August 11th. Greg was the leader when the race was postponed. Mickey & Todd went to work and repaired the car for the regularly scheduled race which saw Greg start dead last in the field and charge his way to the front, coming up just one spot short, finishing a hard fought second to race winner Jamie Maggard.
Greg and the team plans to take this coming week off to spend time with their families. Look for the team to be back racing over the Labor Day weekend.
