Jeff Taylor Leaves Vegas with Prelim Win and Top Five Finish in Finale

Cave City, Arkansas (11/14/12) While Jeff Taylor's bid to roll triple 7's in his #5 Jeff Taylor Racing/Industrial Electric/Provence Construction/New Vision Graphics/Taylor Chassis/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified came up a bit short in Las Vegas last weekend he still enjoyed a great weekend in "Sin City."

The opening round of the annual Duel in the Desert was held at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Las Vegas, Nevada) on Thursday night. With over 250 of the best IMCA Open Wheel Modified pilots in the nation in action Jeff Taylor enjoyed another outstanding performance. He began his night by winning the eighth heat race to lock into the pole for a feature qualifier. He grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. Late in the race he would get a scare though as he received contact on his left front wheel with three laps to go that resulted in heavy damage. Despite the damage, he went on to score the win in the qualifier to lock into the third starting spot for Saturday night's $7,777-to-win finale. John Hansen, Terry Phillips, David Murray, and Johnny Saathoff rounded out the top five finishers. The victory was his ninth of the 2012 campaign.

The finale for the annual Duel in the Desert was held at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Las Vegas, Nevada) on Saturday evening and Jeff came away with a top five finish to show for his efforts. Via his win in preliminary action on Thursday night Taylor started third in the $7,777-to-win finale. On the first lap of the feature Jeff made a three-wide pass for the lead to pace the field for the first circuit. He would lead until lap 8, when Jeremy Payne took over the lead. Over the remainder of the event Jeff raced in the top five before crossing the finish line in fifth behind race winner, Jeremy Payne, John Hansen, David Murray Jr., and Terry Phillips. Full results from the event are available at www.lvms.com/dirt/.

The team now turns their attention to the 8th annual Wes Hurst Memorial, which will be held November 23rd-25th at Central Arizona Raceway (Casa Grande, Arizona). The event is expected to draw many of the nation's top Open Wheel Modified competitors to the oval, which will be seeing its grand reopening held in conjunction with the event.
