Kyle Beard & Upton Motorsports Score First Win of 2013

Mercer, Tennessee (04/10/13) – Upton Motorsports took both team drivers, Kyle Beard and Ashley Newman, into battle on Saturday night in a $1,500-to-win, unsanctioned event at Moulton Speedway (Moulton, Alabama), and when the final checkered flag had dropped Beard and the team had registered their first win of the 2013 campaign.

Kyle Beard started his night by recording the second fastest time in qualifications in his #86 Upton Motorsports/Greg's Sawmill/Bob Pierce/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model, which locked him into the second starting spot for the $1,500-to-win feature. As the finale went green Beard bolted to the lead and went on to lead every lap on his way to his first win of the season, which came over Winkles, Clay Fisher, Billy Flanagan Jr., and Jay Scott.

"The car was just awesome tonight," commented Beard. "We've been chomping at the bit to get back to the track, but the weather has kept us from it. Hopefully this is the first of many wins for us this year."

Ashley Newman powered his #73 Upton Motorsports/Greg's Sawmill/Bob Pierce Super Late Model to the eighth fastest time in qualifications to earn the eighth starting spot for the feature. He raced in the top ten throughout the event before crossing the finish line in the ninth position.

This weekend, April 12th-13th, both Beard and Newman are slated to take part in a pair of COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model events in Tennessee and Arkansas. The action begins on Friday night at Camden Speedway (Camden, Tennessee) before sliding southwest down I-40 to Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) on Saturday night. Kyle Beard will be pursuing his first championship with the tour, while Newman will be chasing not only the championship, but also the Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year title.
