Jimmy Mars Starts Prepping for Pittsburgher Weekend Following Knoxville
(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team roared into the hallowed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa from September 26-28 for the 10th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.' The three-day Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series extravaganza at the 1/2-mile Marion County Fairgrounds facility kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary shows. On Thursday, Jimmy unfortunately could not transfer into the 25-lap feature after finishing fourth in his heat race and eighth in the B-Main. At Knoxville on Friday, Jimmy grabbed the third transfer spot through his heat race and later wound up seventh in the 25-lapper.
Things ratcheted up in a big way on Saturday evening at the black-dirt oval, as a $40,000 top prize was up for grabs in the 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.' Jimmy, who had earned the seventh most single-night points from the two preliminary programs, rolled off from the inside of the fourth row in the 100-lap headliner. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace was unfortunately not around at the finish of the crown jewel event due to a folded-under nose, as he retired in the twenty-third position in the rough and tumble race. The Mars Racing team is slated to take the upcoming October 4-5 weekend off from racing action, but will be busy prepping their equipment for the rapidly-approaching ‘Pittsburgher 100’ weekend. The 25th edition of the ‘Pittsburgher 100’ will be a two-day program sanctioned by the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pennsylvania. Up first will be a $10,000 to win, 50-lap race on Friday, October 11, while the ‘Pittsburgher 100’ will wrap things up in a big way on Saturday, October 12 with a $25,000 winner’s check. Jimmy comes into the final two NDRL events of the season second in the heated point battle behind only Billy Moyer.
